Climatop Visualizes Climate Protection
World Population & Energy Consumption
Today 7 billion people live on our planet. 80 % of all human beings are able to cover their basic needs for food, clothes, living space, medical care, and energy for mobility, heat and coldness. In comparison, at the time of the French Revolution in 1789, almost one billion people lived on our planet, and most of them in extreme poverty. These successes have been made possible thanks to the spectacular advances in the field of science and technology and thanks to the continually growing use of raw materials, resources and energy. But environmental pollution as well as dwindling fuel and energy resources are the other side of the same coin.
Many problems, such as environmental pollution or the use of raw materials, can be solved. The high energy consumption plus the climate warming have the potential being disastrous for the world.
Energy Consumption & Global Warming
Energy is quite special. The availability of an adequate amount of energy is necessary for every aspect in our life. The production of food or the recycling of materials are just two of many examples. Nothing runs without it. Unfortunately, the climate change is strongly linked to the wastage of energy.
In the near future, our planet will be inhabited by more than 9 billion people. The hight rate of population growth as well as the substantial rise in prosperity in newly industrializing countries lead to a strong demand for energy and raw materials. Due to improved prosperity, there is higher demand for meat and dairy products. They show a significantly poorer climate balance than cereals. The global problems caused by climate change and the lack of energy sources will continue to grow.
climatop's Contribution
We are convinced that the humanity is able to solve their problems concerning energy supply and climate change. We contribute a part to the solution in form of the climatop label.
The energy and climate issues may be solved thanks to innovations, which are attained by higher prices/ costs. Two opinions should proceed parallel:
- saving energy and
- an increased and additional generation of renewable enrergy.
By all results of calculations, it is cheaper to save energy instead to produce new one. Despite the fact that it will not be sufficient, we need new alternative energy sources. An essential energy saving aspect is the use of innovative products, like the Dyson AirbladeTM handdryers, which need less energy for the same usage/ function.
At that point, climatop may come into play. climatop calculates and compares innovative products and certifies those who need, compared with a representative peer group or a industry average, less energy or ,in the case of agricultural products, emit less green house gases. Moreover, only products with equally good total environmental impact are labelled.
